- 1.5 lbs strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 c sugar
- 1/3 c shortening
- 2 c flour
- 2 T sugar
- 3 t baking powder
- 1 t salt
- 3/4 c milk
- whipped cream
- Mix strawberries and 1/2 cup sugar, refrigerate one hour.
- Heat oven to 450°. Grease sides and bottom of 8-inch cake pan.
- Combine flour, 2 T sugar, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk just until blended.
- Pat mixture into pan. Bake 15-20 min. While still warm, slice cake horizontally. Spread butter on both sides. Fill with strawberries, replace top. Top with strawberries and whipped cream.
